August News

August is off to a great start with great partnerships, student research success, and a new grant-funded project:

On Thursday, August 1, I had the pleasure of hosting research collaborators from the University of Mississippi Medical Center Cancer Center and Research Institute in The Message Lab. We share a passion for cancer prevention and health equity, and I look forward to building a strong partnership between our centers.

The following day, undergraduate research assistant Aubrey Parrish presented her work at the MSU Undergraduate Research Symposium. Her project, “Effects of Body-Positive Marketing on Brand Success,” won second place in the Social Sciences Division. Congratulations, Aubrey!

Finally, Friday night brought the exciting news that my research collaborator, Dr. Quisto Settle, and I were awarded an Innovation in Teaching award from the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities. This award will fund the development of a science communication learning experience and associated communication research.

Aubrey shares her work with the judges.
